Welcome Home, Baby Arlo

Before I met my husband and moved to the States I'd planned on going to the University of Manitoba for nursing. I never did end up going into medicine but later, became a breastfeeding peer counselor for the county, teaching in labor + delivery classes, thinking seriously about becoming Bradley Method birthing coach. I loved being an encouragement to new moms, just like myself.  And not unlike many other moms, growing, birthing and breastfeeding my children was the most meaningful, purposeful experience I believe I will ever have.  Is anything more miraculous than bringing life into the world through our very bodies?

As I am approaching my seven year anniversary of professionally photographing, I realize that my work actually allows me to be a part of the things I loved and miss about being a breastfeeding counselor and mom of a newborn.  I get to talk to and support moms during the most emotional days of their lives.  I get to hold and snuggle brand new babies. And sometimes it’s a seasoned mom and we can trade stories about our pregnancies and births.

Life’s unexpected twists brought me into the home of this wonderful family I photographed a year earlier for a family session with their sweet daughter, Nyah. I loved everything about this newborn session in their new home, with its huge windows letting in so much beautiful light, and the simple, adorable decor and, of course the stunning couple who just welcomed their first baby boy into the world!  Thank you, Amanda, for this lovely opportunity.

These images make my heart spill over . . .
